In fairness, anger is both a common and sometimes healthy feeling. However, when one is unable to control their anger or takes it out on a friend or family member, that is when it becomes an issue. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to reduce anger, providing relief to loved ones and to oneself. The simplest method is to breathe calmly. Specifically, breath from diaphragm instead of the chest; similar to how one should sing from the diaphragm instead of the throat. Telling oneself keywords or phrases such as “relax” or “calm down” can also make the difference to reevaluate a situation. The term “happy place” certainly applies here because creating a mental image of a favorite memory or imagination can lift one’s morale. For people who prefer a more physical solution can look towards yoga, exercise by riding a bike for example. The main takeaway from this response should be to think logically. In doing so, one can take a step back from any situation and take a moment to decide whether the matter is worth remaining angry over.
