The day after signing an executive order to protect abortion rights, The Courier Journal first reported that President Biden would consider nominating Chad Meredith, a member of the Federalist Society with a strong anti-abortion record. The reason this individual is even being considered is because Meredith is a product of a deal between Biden and Senator Mitch McConnell. In terms of details about this negotiation, there is currently no details on it. Pro: Biden is treading in unfavorable conditions in terms of approval rating, narrowest majorities in both the House and Senate, and wants to uphold his reputation of being bipartisan. Con: As long as the Democrats are united, there is no need for Republican input. He cannot afford to alienate his base for a potential re-election and Democrats have nothing to gain from appointing Meredith to become a federal judge.
