Subdue the enemy without fighting

The highest result is the one you get before a clash starts. Force is what is left when the setup failed. In work, school, and leadership, the win is often the proposal that was already clear, the relationship you built earlier, or the timing you chose so the other side can say yes.

A fight spends people. A settlement, a boundary stated early, or a plan both sides can live with does the job with less damage. Look for the move that makes the hard collision unnecessary.

Use it. Before a hard meeting, ask what would let both sides leave without a fight. Prepare that, and bring the fight only if that path is closed.
