The Art of War A closed gate, and an open gap in the brush beside it.

Sun Tzu · The Art of War

Attack weaknesses, avoid strengths

Going straight at someone’s strongest point spends you and leaves them unmoved. The useful place is the one they have not prepared: a time, a skill, a gap in the plan.

In a job, that may be the problem the team keeps walking past. In a game or a negotiation, it is the side they leave open. Put the effort there.

Use it. Name their strongest point, and then name one place they are thin. Start with the thin place.
